Children’S Garden Daycare

Badger is a family-owned, family-operated, and family-friendly company. For years Badger has had a babies-at-work program that allows new parents to have their young babies with them at work to help strengthen the parent-child bond. In the summer of 2013 Badger opened its own full-day, partially subsidized child care center offering reasonably-priced, high quality, flexible child care for children of Badger employees, as well as a limited number of children from the greater community. The center itself is located in the renovated house that was the former home to the Badger Company, a quarter of a mile down the road from the company's new facility. There is space for the equivalent 12 full time children in the program, which serves children in the age range of 6 months to 3 years of age. Badger employee’s children generally make up about half of total enrollment. Katie Schwerin, Badger’s co-founder and COO, designed and established this child care program with her friend and former Waldorf School colleague, Betsi McGuigan. They examined the normal daily routine for children in daycare and asked numerous questions about how to best support the healthy development of young children. Through a series of meetings and conversations, Katie, Betsi, and other educators came to a few core concepts which have been incorporated into the childcare program:

About the Director Deanna Gustafson grew up in Chicago Illinois, the youngest child of a large family. She got involved in the care of children early in her teen years, dreaming of establishing a day care center one day. She and her husband have three children; all of them attended Children's Lighthouse and have graduated. Deanna has her Florida Advanced Director Credential, as well as her CDA credential. She received a Bachelor of Arts/Psychology from DePaul University, Chicago Illinois. Deanna was a seasoned pre-school teacher when she was hired as the Assistant Director of Children's Lighthouse in preparation for its opening in August of 2005. As the New Year of 2006 came, she accepted the offer to be the Director of Children's Lighthouse, gladly taking the baton and fulfilling one of her greatest dreams. With over 20 years of experience in the field of childcare and more than 25 years of management experience, everything seemed to be aligning Deanna's steps and to set them in place for just such a time as this. Being actively engaged in every area of the center, knowing every child by face and name, and by connecting with the community and its families for the purpose of service, Deanna has passionately and consistently maximized her resources, displaying an amazing example to the many children that she and her staff love and educate every day. She and her dedicated team have garnered much support and love because of the incredible impact they are having, the many lives their hearts are touching and the beautiful network they have built. Deanna's goal is to consistently be a positive influence and to enrich the lives of all the children, families, and her staff in a very vibrant and safe environment. The fruit of her labor is rich, and Children's Lighthouse is thriving, as they continue to be a blessing in the Winter Garden Community.

Welcome to Child Garden Montessori As Montessori educators, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with young children and their families. Our school has chosen to focus on this most important time in every child’s life- from before birth to age six- because it is the foundation from which the rest of their life experiences will grow. We would be delighted to welcome your family to our community and to partner with you in your child’s growth and development. This slideshow requires JavaScript. At Child Garden Montessori, our goal for each and every child is that, beyond supporting academic, physical and emotional development necessary for success, we can instill a joy of learning that will affect their experiences well beyond their first six years. What we want most for our children is that they become passionate about their own learning, and that they have the tools and skills necessary for them to pursue educational experiences as they grow and develop. Child Garden is a private Montessori school for children from the ages of six weeks through six years. The school offers an all-day program as a service to working parents. Choosing a school for your child is an important decision and we look forward to showing you what makes Child Garden Montessori so special. Lighthouse C.A.R.E.S.&#8480 Curriculum Our goal is to nurture the development of each child's full potential - intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically - in an atmosphere of safety and trust. Character Values Education Our comprehensive curriculum focuses not only on intellectual development, but also on healthy social and emotional growth through systematic character values education. Active Engagement Activities are designed to promote active learning through a "hands on" approach that allows children to explore the world in which they live. Research-Centered Practice Learning activities are grounded both in time-honored practice, such as learning through play, as well as in current research findings in the field of neuro-education. "Brain-based" learning strategies, for example, reveal that memory and creativity are enhanced by music, movement, and artistic expression. Embedded Content Our fully-integrated curriculum is characterized by thematic units which combine the key skills of reading and mathematics with learning in the content areas of science and social studies. Standards-based Objectives Every learning activity is carefully planned to meet or exceed both national and state standards. Core Values We believe that each child is an individual, with his or her own unique set of strengths, talents, and gifts We believe that every child has a right to excellence in all aspects of early childhood education. We believe in the importance of teaching character values, and more important, in modeling their use in our interactions with children, their families, and one another. We believe in the use of positive discipline strategies that lead children to become self-disciplined. We believe that honest and frequent communication between the school and the home positively impacts children’s success. We believe in the importance of continuing professional development and personal growth through educational opportunities and supportive communities learning. We believe that every teacher and staff member can make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
